# Marketplace Workflows

A player earns a rare item and wants to sell it to another player; a different player opens your shop to buy a starter bundle. Both are the same problem underneath: moving an owned item from one holder to another, priced in your currency, without it being duplicated or lost. MetaMarket owns that transfer and settlement, so you design the storefront, the pricing, and the rules while the item and the money move correctly beneath them.

## Studio shops

A shop is a studio-run catalogue: products the studio defines, priced in the game's own currency, delivered when a player buys. One shared catalogue can serve every player in the game from a single instance. The pricing-and-delivery mechanics are the soft-currency sink covered in [Game Economy Infrastructure](/use-cases/game-economy.md); what matters here is that the storefront, its contents, and its merchandising are the studio's to shape. This is how the platform's own storefronts run today.

## Player-to-player listings

A player can list an item they own for another player in the same game to buy.

Listing is a `list_item` action the studio declares in configuration. When it runs, the item moves out of the seller's balance and is held against the listing, so it cannot be sold twice or listed while already gone. A seller who does not actually hold the item has the listing rejected, which surfaces as a skipped action rather than an error; see [Worked Examples](/evaluate-and-integrate/examples.md).

The seller sets the price in the game's own currency. When a buyer purchases, the payment goes to the seller and the item to the buyer, and the seller receives the full price: there is no platform commission on a sale today.

Buyer and seller are always in the same game. There is no cross-game purchase path. [Worked Examples](/evaluate-and-integrate/examples.md#player-listing-and-purchase) shows the create-and-buy requests end to end.

## Where it extends

Within-game shops and player listings are what run today. A cross-game marketplace, a shared catalogue, and cross-game redemption are future work; the [Roadmap](/releases-and-reference/roadmap.md) and [Product availability](/overview/current-scope.md) hold their status, and the real-money boundary is in [Studio and platform responsibilities](/architecture-and-trust/responsibilities-and-boundaries.md).

To prove a shop and a player listing against a real environment, take the [Evaluate MetaMarket](/evaluate-and-integrate/evaluate.md) path; the concepts underneath are in [Rewards and Inventory](/core-concepts/rewards-and-inventory.md).
